Welcome to Sepang

I have been in living in Sepang for just over a year. It has been quite a change moving from the big city of Kuala Lumpur to a suburban-rural area. Friends don't come by as it is too far away from the city. I traded the noise of cars and motorcycles for planes and crickets.

I don't quite like eating pumpkins; my wife love them. Pumpkins in the kitchen is a symbol food security for her as pumpkins can be stored for a long time. Although we have plenty of food to eat, and the fridge is full of organic vegetables, except for Tuesday when we have special arrangements with GK Organic farm to procure vegetables direct from them at night.

There are generally 2 kinds of pumpkins available locally, a dark orange skin pumpkin and a green-orange spot pumpkin. It is summer all year round, with temperature hovering around 32C. Suitable for all year round growing. Space is limited though, I have 2 garden patches of 36 square feet each. I have started planting pumpkins about a month ago, and they are almost a feet in length. I don't know what variety they are or are called. All I know it is one of the local variety.

My wife bought a kabocha and I have asked her to keep the seeds when she decides to cut it. I am waiting for the delivery of some atlantic giant; now I am wondering if I have the space to grow them. Maybe I will figure out a way to creatively utilise space such as growing over the roof. Plans for this year, local pumpkin for the next 3 months, then try out kabocha. I might just try atlantic giant towards the end of the year where my north facing gardens and garage roof progressively gets more light.

Wish: Have more land.
